CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY
Clinical Hypnotherapy is one such approach that can be utilised in conjunction to other therapies. It is popular due to various (ridiculous) acts shown by the media (swinging a pocket watch back and forth). In reality, real hypnosis bears little resemblance to the stereotyped images.
Clinical Hypnotherapy is a powerful approach that can be applied to psychotherapy; it works best when the hypnotherapist has a good knowledge of psychology and is familiar with psychotherapy. In psychotherapy, hypnotic techniques are effective in speeding the process of therapy. Clinical Hypnotherapy is considered very effective specially when subconscious mind is to be accessed.
USES OF CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY
Clinical Hypnotherapy has countless uses in psychotherapy, like other approaches, it is used to facilitate client's understanding of themselves or their problems, uncover repressed memories, reduce anxieties, fears and phobias, develop healthier ways of coping, etc.
CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY IN INDIA
Although hypnotherapy is not a new tool, it hasn't firmly established its roots in Indian Psychology. The text books do talk about hypnotherapy, but practical usage or application is kept out of the syllabus. This is majorly because it involves extensive training. Also, because it involves aspects like trance induction, which is an integral part of hypnotherapy and needs a lot of practice. Thus it becomes difficult to accommodate all this along with the other topics.
However, hypnotherapy has clinically been proven to provide therapeutic benefits. It becomes a good add on for therapists and aids in client welfare and hence we feel learning clinical hypnotherapy can be very useful for healthcare professionals.
